Three Children Escape Springs House Fire

COLORADO SPRINGS – Three young children were able to escape a house fire Monday morning. Neighbors say they were alonewhen the fire started.

Crews say the fire sparked in the basement of 685 Prestonwood Drive, near I-25 and Fillmore. The homeowner says the house is at a total loss. Fire crews say it may be livable after a few days.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire. They say it’s important to teach kids about the dangers of playing with fire.

Neighbors saythe oldest daughter was not home when the fire started. The younger children got out of their home and asked a man working on a home across the street to call 911.
