Teen Arrested In Brother’s Shooting Death

PUEBLO – Just into the Newschannel 13 Newsroom, we’ve learned that a 14-year-old boy in Pueblo has been arrestedfor the shooting death of his brother, 13-year-oldDerek Gonzales. He is facing manslaughter charges. The shooting happened at about 10:45 PM on July 06, 2009. Officers arrived to 1550 Pike in Pueblo, to find that Derek had been shot in the face. He died on the way to the hospital. Detectives say the 14-year-old was playing with a shotgun when it went off, hitting Derek.

Initially the brother said the shooting was gang-related and the result of a drive-by. However, another boy later told police it was an accident.

Derek’s 14-year-old brother is in custody at the Pueblo Youth Services Center.
