Olney Springs Still Under Boil Order
OLNEY SPRINGS – Residents are still waiting for a boil order to be lifted on their water supply. It’s been almost three full days since residents were first told not to drink the water until they boiled it.
“We were closed Sunday, we’ll be closed today (Monday),” said restaurant owner and resident in Olney Springs, Shanan Westfall. “It’s not good at all,” she added.
Restaurants and café’s up and down the main street in the small town of Olney Springs all remain closed Monday.
“We got a call Saturday night that said the chlorinator has gone out and we have to close until they could get our water back into shape,” said Westfall.
Although restaurant owners hate to close their doors, they do say, they understand.
“Yu got to go by what the state says, if they say you got to shut the doors, you got to shut the doors,” said Westfall. “Id rather be closed than to know that someone had problems because of the water,” she explained.
Fortunately the water in Olney Springs has not been contaminated. Now restaurant owners just have to wait and hope that it doesn’t last too much longer.
“I just hope they get it fixed quick so that we can get open,” explained Westfall.
NEWSCHANNEL 13 spoke with the Mayor of Olney Springs, Betty Marshall. She says that the chlorine system has been fixed, but the boil order cannot be lifted until water samples have been tested. Marshall tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 that she hopes it will all be over by Tuesday.
There are about 250 residents in the town of Olney Springs.
