Hundreds Wait For Results On Hepatitis Infection

EL PASO COUNTY – Hundreds of patients could know by late Monday whether or not they were exposed to hepatitis by a surgery technician.

Audubon Surgery Center at Union and Circle sent out letters last week to patients who had been seen at the center in the pasttwo months.

NEWSCHANNEL 13 has been tracking the status since we learned a former employee named Kristen Parker switched patient syringes with hers when she worked at the center from May 4 to early last week. Ninepatients at Rose Medical Center in Denver have already tested positive for Hepatitis C.

1,200 patients who had surgery at the Audubon Surgery Center between May 4, 2009 and July 1, 2009 may have been exposed to Hepatitis C and will need to take a free blood test starting next week. There could be as many as 6,000 patients exposed statewide, including Rose Medical Center in Denver.
