84 Air Force Cadets Isolated Over Flu Fears

AIR FORCE ACADEMY – NEWSCHANNEL 13 has leaned that 84 cadets are now being isolated over concerns of a flu outbreak at the academy.

An Air Force Academy spokesman tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 cadets from thenew class that arrived in June started showing flu-like symptoms on Monday. The cadets have since been tested and placed in an on base dormitory until the results are sent back.

The Academy, as part of its standard operating procedure, has notified the El Paso County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control.

In a statement read to NEWSCHANNEL 13, the academy says: “We are totally committed to providing our personnel with the best possible healthcare.”

Test results were sent to an Air Force facility in San Antonio, Texas and are expected to come back within 24-hours.

For now, the Academy is recommending its 10,000 cadets and staff members take preventative measures to stay healthy.
