Local Women Help Save Dogs
PEYTON – Animal abuse happening in puppy mills in neighboring states, and in some cases at puppy farms here in Colorado. One local woman is rescuing the hurting animals. In a recent rescue the majority of the dogs were taken from Lebanon, Missouri and brought to Peyton for medical care from there they will be taken to Kanab, Utah.
Volunteers helped rescue 35 dogs all of them in desperate need of care. Volunteer Paige Ashby says, “it’s absolutely heartbreaking what they do is these dogs.” One dog’s intestines and bladder have fallen out from over breeding. That dog is four years old and bread 2 times a year.
Theresa says, “we got a call Tuesday that one of the breeder’s that had majority of dogs started killing them.” She went right away to get the dogs, by the time she got there the breeder had already killed 14 animals. Strader says, “they’re forced to live in small confines, breeding, breeding, breeding for profit that’s the abuse of a puppy mill dog.”
Theresa brings them here to her rescue and makes sure they get the medical care and socialization they need. In the two years Strader has been rescuing dogs, she’s helped more than 2,000 animals.
Theresa has 60 dogs that need adopting if you are interested in adopting one of the animals click here to learn more.
