Police Arrest Robbery Suspect, Schools Remove Lock-Down Status
COLORADO SPRINGS – A robbery suspect is now in custodyafter an hour long chase Tuesday morning that lefttwo schools on lock-down status.
Police arrested 23-year-old Tyrone Small in the area of Pikes Peak and University around 11 a.m. after a foot chase. Small is wanted out of Texas for a string of robberies. They caught up withSmall in the backyard of a home on the 3600 block of Garland Court.
Monroe Elementary School and STAR Academy were placed on lock-down status during the search but have since resumed normal session.
A search warrant was conducted in an apartment near Pikes Peak and Haymen Tuesday afternoon. It’s believedSmall had been staying there, but did not live there.
Details surrounding the robberies were not released by police.
Neighbors in the area tell NEWSCHANNEL 13 crime happens in that area all the time. One neighbor said police, ambulance and fire vehicles are constantly in the neighborhood. Despite on-going activity, neighbor Ron Wooge, says “We aren’t nervous, the cops do a good job and I feel safe.”
