Caught On Tape: Armed Robbery At Springs Restaurant

By Josh Simeone J.Simeone@krdo.com

COLORADO SPRINGS – A violent armed robbery at a local Mexican food restaurant and the victim is a 16-year-old boy.

It happened in late February to the Taco Star on North Wahsatch and Platte in downtown Colorado Springs.

NEWSCHANNEL 13 exclusively obtained video of the entire ordeal, when three men rushed the counter of the restaurant, one carrying a gun, another carrying a knife.

The video shows one of the men rushing to the back of the kitchen, while two others head right for the cash register. With the 16-year-old boy holding his hands up, the two men raid the cash register, emptying it out for around $800.

What made the incident even worse for the boy was that the suspects had hit his family’s restaurant. The family tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 they are running the business and had only just moved to Colorado Springs a month one month before the robbery.

On March 2, the boy’s father received two letters from the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office, stating the office had filed charges against two of the suspects.

The boy’s father says he recently received a call informing him the two suspects would not be going to jail. The family tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 as far as they know; the third suspect in the robbery has not been arrested or identified.

NEWSCHANNEL 13 was unable to get a hold of the District Attorney’s office because it was after business hours.
