Body Found In Monument Park Sparks Death Investigation

COLORADO SPRINGS – Police have ruled the discovery of a body in Colorado Springs Thursday, thesecond homicide of 2009. 54-year-old David Doyle of Colorado Springswas found on the pedestrian bridge over I-25 between Bijou and Uintah. There were two homicides at this time in 2008.

Investigators blocked off the pedestrian bridge and part of Monument Valley Park for hours, as they try and figure out what happened that left a man dead on the pedestrian bridge. The El Paso County Coroners Office says the cause of death was head trauma.

“We have some transient camps south of this location, so we’re trying to see if we can locate anybody there who might be able to identify this person,” says Sgt. Darrin Abbink with the Colorado Springs Police Department, “or that might have any idea of what happened here last night.”

Police received a call about 4:45 a.m. Thursday of a dead body on the pedestrian bridge. Officers found a 54-year-old David Doyle dead on top of the bridge and investigators say he is a transient. Police on the scene took photos and searched through the man’s property for clues.

Investigators are also looking into the pay phone call that reported the body. It was made from a convenience store at 21st Street and Colorado.

“We did have detectives go over there to see if they could find anymore information about who called this in,” says Abbink. Police also brought in a fire crew to get some aerial shots of the scene.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes/Homicide Unit are continuing their investigation into the incident.
