Double Shooting Murder Sparked Over Stolen IPod, Victims Identified
EL PASO COUNTY – El Paso County Sheriff’s tell NEWSCHANNEL 13 a fight that ended with a double murder shooting on Thursdaysparked over a stolen IPod.
The shootingshappened around 4:00 p.m.after a large fight erupted at a park nearConstitution Avenue and Canada Drive in the Cimarron Hills Area . Police say those involved are affiliated with local gangs.
The suspected shooter, 19-year-old Juan Vasquez, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Friday and is facing two counts of First Degree Murder. Vasquez is being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center without bond.
Sheriff’s Deputies say the first victim, 17-year-old Luis Burciaga, astudent atNew Horizon School,died at the scene of the shooting. The second victim, 18-year-old Uriel Rascon, astudent at Sierra High School, was taken to a local hospital wherehe waslaterpronounced dead. Both suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest with an assault rifle.
Witnesses report hearing two loud bangs in the park and seeing a group of teens running from the area.The ongoing police investigationrevealed a fight occurred on Wednesday over a stolen IPod and evolved into the shooting on Thursday.
