Springfield Fire Victims Owned Town’s Only Theater
SPRINGFIELD – The husband and wife who died in a fire at their Mexican restaurant in Springfield are being remembered as friendly, hard workers who reopened the town’s only movie theater.
Rocky Saldana, his wife Pamela and their 17-year-old son Jazz all died Friday after a fire swept through the Hometown Burrito restaurant and their adjoining residence in the southeastern Colorado town. Pamela Saldana’s mother, Sharon Jones, also lived there and was able to escape without serious injury.
Penny Self, the editor and publisher of the town’s newspaper, the Plainsman Herald, says the restaurant was a popular spot to eat in town. She also says residents were thrilled when the Saldanas worked to reopen the Capitol Theater.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating the cause of the fire and hasn’t released a cause.
