Deadly Springfield Fire Kills Three

SPRINGFIELD – Baca County Coroner Dr. Robert Morrow has confirmed a third fatality following an early morning fire that destroyed a restaurant and home in Springfield, Colorado, Friday.

The identities of the victims have not been established, and an investigation is continuing.

The fire was reported at 2:10 a.m. at the Hometown Burrito restaurant, and a home.

Springfield fire and emergency medical services (EMS) were called to the scene, and later requested assistance from fire departments in Walsh, Pritchett, Campo, and Two Buttes, as well as Prowers Rural Fire.

Flight for Life from Pueblo was also requested, but did not transport anyone from the scene.

Emergency Medical Services treated and released one person at scene for possible smoke inhalation.

A team from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation arrived in Springfield mid-morning, and will be assisting the Baca County Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Police Department in determining the cause.

An area one block north and south of the fire was temporarily evacuated, however residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

Springfield is located in the southeast corner of Colorado near the Kansas and Oklahoma borders, and has a population of approximately 2,500.
