Closing Arguments In Fort Carson Death Friday
COLORADO SPRINGS – The last scheduled defense witness took the stand Friday in the trial of a former Fort Carson soldier accused of killing a fellow Iraq war veteran.
Louis Bressler is charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 1, 2007 death of 24-year-old Spc. Kevin Shields. Prosecutors say Bressler shot Shields because he knew too much about robberies that Bressler and others planned to commit, and because he’d lost a fight to Shields.
Forensic analysis expert John Koziol testified Friday as part of a defense strategy to show that another soldier shot Shields, but prosecutors cross-examined Koziol about blood spatter evidence and bullet angles in an attempt to discredit that theory.
It was not immediately clear whether Bressler would testify in his own defense.
