Breckenridge Economy Fears

BRECKENRIDGE – Chairlift lines were full for opening day at Breckenridge. But will they stay full all season? The bad economy has many resort officials concerned.
Breckenridge can rely on the regulars, but what about visitors? “Reservations are definitely down and we are concerned. But one good thing for ski resorts is that skiers are very resilient. They will travel and come; they are passionate about their sport,” said Breckenridge Public Relations Director Carly Grimes.
With the economy down that only means Breckenridge is working harder. They have lodge and ticket deals, plus more free events. “Skiers and riders are so passionate about the sport, they want to get here. And we’re just trying to make it easier than ever for them, in times when they might not want to be spending as much money,” said Breckenridge Communications Manager Kristen Pititt.
So far 5 of the Colorado Ski Resorts are open; Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Loveland. Wolf Creek opens Saturday.
