Registered Sex Offenders Living By Schools: NEWSCHANNEL 13 Investigation

KRDO – Hundreds of registered sex offenders live next to you and your child’s school. NEWSCHANNEL 13 did the research and found hundreds of sex offenders living within 2,000 feet (less than four blocks) of schools.

“I wonder if other parents know if a sex offender lives that close,” says Washington Elementary (District 11) parent Frank Navarro.

There’s nothing illegal about it because there’s no Colorado law preventing this.

“What legislator do you know would not want to protect his or her own child or their grandchildren or their nieces and nephews?” says Pueblo City Schools (District 60) Assistant Superintendent Kathy West.

“If a sex offender has completed their sentencing, their probation, their parole, etc., then they’re free to live wherever they may,” says Colorado Springs Police detective Sgt. Bill DeHart.
