Campers, Rangers Recover From Tornado
PARK COUNTY – Rangers at Eleven Mile Reservoir State Park had cleared away most of the debris from Saturday’s tornado by noon Sunday. Overturned vehicles were towed to local impound lots. No serious injuries were reported.
Rangers remain surprised at the rare mountain twister, and the speed at which it moved through the area. They say they tried their best to warn campers in advance. “We have public adress in our vehicles (to) let people know,” explainedRanger Ross Wedgel. “It wouldn’t have done any good. It happened so fast.”
Meanwhile, back in Colorado Springs, the Tuggle familywas thankful to be alive. Rick, Theresa, six-year-old daughter Aubrey and dog Kelsie suffered scrapes and bruises when theysought shelter in their motor home, andthe strong winds flipped it. “I thought we were going to die for sure,” said Theresa. “I just hung on to my daughter and prayed.”
“I guess the moral of the story is take a tank when you go camping,” said Rick. He says he needs help towing his damaged vehicle from Lake George to Colorado Springs. If you can help, call 635-5250.
