Four Arrested After Armed Robber And Assault
COLORADO SPRINGS – Four people are under arrest after a robbery and assault near Academy and Chelton. Police say around 4:30 Wednesday morning, a man near a convenience store at Academy and Chelton was confronted by a woman, who invited him back to her apartment across the street.
Police say there, the man was robbed of money and a backpack, and then assaulted. He was able to get out of the apartment and call 911. The victim told police there were three men and the woman inside the apartment and that one had a semi-automatic handgun. But the suspects were not cooperative with police.
“They refused to comply with orders, they refused to comply with the officers and even refused to acknowledge the officers’ presence,” says Sgt. Mark Comte with the Colorado Springs Police Department. The first officers on the scene decided to call in the SWAT team.
“Based on the violent nature of the crime, there were weapons involved, the decision was made to call in tactical enforcement,” Comte says. It took the SWAT team a little more than an hour to make the arrests once officers set up on the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital, but police don’t have updated information on his condition. No charges have been filed yet, but police say that will likely happen Wednesday afternoon.
