Confessed Killer To Be Extradited To Florida
JACKSON – The man serving a life sentence for killing a former Colorado woman in Georgia will be extradited to Florida, where he faces the death penalty in the slaying and decapitation of a nurse.
Sixty-one-year-old Gary Michael Hilton is serving life behind bars for killing hiker Meredith Emerson in the woods of northern Georgia. Emerson was from Longmont.
A Georgia judge today cleared the way Hilton to be extradited to Florida, where he’s been indicted in the death of 46-year-old Cheryl Hodges Dunlap.
Her body was found December 19th in a forest southwest of Tallahassee. Hilton has 30 days to appeal the extradition ruling. He represented himself at today’s hearing, denying he’s guilty of the charges he faces.
