Obama Wins Wyoming Caucuses

CASPER – Barack Obama is the winner of the Wyoming Democratic caucuses, but Hillary Clinton isn’t leaving empty-handed.Turnout was remarkably heavy. Four years ago, only 675 peopleacross Wyoming took part.Obama won 61 percent, or 5,378 votes, to Clinton’s 38 percent,or 3,312 votes, with all 23 Wyoming counties reporting. One percent was uncommitted.

Obama won seven delegates and Clinton won five. In the overall race for the nomination, Obama leads 1,578 to 1,468, according to the latest tally by The Associated Press. It will take 2,025 delegates to win the Democratic nomination.Obama’s campaign manager told reporters the Wyoming win spoke tothe candidate’s strength in the West, that Obama is better suitedto help down-ticket Democrats even in states that vote Republican in November.

Meanwhile, Clinton’s campaign took heart in their ability to pick up more delegates.Both candidates are looking ahead to the bigger prize: Delegate-rich Pennsylvania on April 22nd.
