Pat Jones – Photojournalist

Ibeganmy career at NEWSCHANNEL 13 as a studio camera operator, quickly moving on to my current positionas aphotojournalist and editor. What I enjoy most about my job is the constant challenge of documenting the news as it unfolds, the people I meet and the stories I help tell. It’sinteresting to get the inside perspective that the average citizen doesn’t get to see. I’ve also learned many things about our city since starting this job and continue to learn new things every day. For instance, upon doing a story on local farmers markets, I learned that the fruit comes to us all the way from Grand Junction. A story on wildfires taught me that we have a Hotshots training camp just outside of Monument. Astory on the history of our city revealed to me that asmall neighborhood in Colorado Springs was once a little towncalled Roswell, and to this dayRoswell Community Church stillsitsin the heart of that neighborhood.

My philosophy as a news photojournalist and editoris not just to capture the story, but also to tell it in a way that is visually interesting. As our city continues to grow, the volume of newsworthy events grows with it. Each day I’m faced with the challenge of getting there first, capturing the story and bringing itto our viewers in a cohesive andsuccinct format.
