Mike Pettigrew – Photojournalist

I have been at NEWSCHANNEL 13 for about a year and a half, hired on as the Pueblo photojournalist. This position is an interesting one because I don’t just have Pueblo to worry about. Being the closest to breaking news south of Colorado Springs means there is a lot to cover. It might be the starving cattle in Lamar, tornados in Holly, or Pinon Canyon in Trinidad.

The position requires being on call 24/7 and might include a 5:00 a.m. wake up call. It may seem intrusive, but never knowing what you will be doing can be very exciting. To me, the most intense breaking news events would have to be fires. They offer the most intense video and are the most unpredictable.

Since our Pueblo Bureau moved downtown at the beginning of the year we are closer to all the major events in town.
