Day 6: Saturday

BRECKENRIDGE – My plan was to take the Smart Car, Fortwo everywhere for 7 days with no exception. However, I felt my safety was a bigger priority so I had to leave the Smart Car in my garage for the weekend.

Ischeduled a trip to the mountains to see how the Smart Car would handle the icy roads, mountain passes and the high wind advisoryissued for the area. Judging how poorly the micro car handled the snowy conditions in Colorado Springs, it wouldn’t have stood a chance in Breckenridge. As I mentioned in mypreviousblog entries, the smart Car only weighs 1,600 pounds. I feared a high gust of wind would have knocked the Smart Car off the road.

The roads were very icy and unmanaged in several spots on my way up to Summit County. By the time I reached the resort I realized I had made the right choice. It would have been impossible to navigate the SmartCar in the snow-packed roads I encountered here in Breckenridge.

Another major deterrent for not choosing the Smart Car was the lack oftrunk space. After several attempts to jam my snowboard and a pair of skis in the car, I chose the sure-footed Chevy Trailblazer to guide me up the mountain.
