A.J. Kievenaar – Photojournalist
I began working with KRDO NEWSCHANNEL 13 this past June, working as the morning news show editor with the Good Morning Colorado crew. A challenge I had to quickly overcome with this job had to do with the hours I worked. I had never been employed in an overnight position before, but this was a job I truly wanted.
This was my first position in news, having received this job through an internshipprovided byUCCS. I did not receive as much training as usually given for this position, but I am learning a lot by getting opportunities to be behind the camera and edit the morning shows.
During my time at UCCS, I had three different jobs on campus that gave me some experience into my major of Recording Arts. First, I worked in a Videographer job that required recording presentations in class. I also worked as a studio cameraman and was able to do camera work for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while they used the studio for a couple of months in 2006. I was also able to be a news reporter for the UCCS School Newspaper (The Scribe),writing a column on past issues regarding race and gender for a year as well.
I graduated from UCCS in May, 2007 with a degree in Recording Arts-Communications. My overall goal is to one day be able to edit pieces for a major production studio in the filming world, such as Dreamworks, Paramount or Touchstone. I have enjoyed all the experiences, both fun and hard, up to this point and look forward to seeing where I can go withthis company.
