Rep. Doug Bruce Refuses To Honor Military
DENVER – Colorado Springs Representative Doug Bruce has angered his fellow lawmakers again. On Wednesday morning, he asked to be excused from voting on a House and Senate resolution recognizing the U.S. Military.
“I asked to be excused on the rules of voting on this symbolic, ceremonial resolution that has no legal effect, I think that it is a waste of our time,” said Rep. Bruce in front of the House.
The House voted against excusing Bruce from voting on the resolution. He ultimately was the only lawmaker to not cosponsor the resolution.
“I was appalled to say the least, I would question whether his district would say that that was ample representation.” says Representative Marsha Looper (R-Eastern El Paso County). “Thousands, if not tens of thousands of retired veterans in our county alone, and I thought it was a slap in the face to those veterans and I’m appalled.”
In the afternoon, the House Republican Caucus sent NEWSCHANNEL 13 a letter condemning Bruce. It was signed by all El Paso County Republican representatives except for Kent Lambert, who himself is an Air Force Veteran.
