Candidate ‘Robocalls’ Could Be Banned

DENVER – State legislators want to ban the so-called robocalls that flood voters during elections. Denver Senator Paula Sandoval says the prerecorded messages by celebrities stumping for candidates have become a nuisance. Colorado Springs Republican Larry Liston is co-sponsoring the measure, which is also being supported by Attorney General John Suthers. Jefferson Democratic senator Mo Keller is also introducing a measure that takes aim at robocalls. She says her bill is spurred by recent political races where the recorded messages have been vicious and negative. Her bill would not affect non-profits or messages by elected officials informing constituents of community meetings. The Senate Veteran and Military Affairs committee will hear the bills on Tuesday.
