Defense Rests In Trial Of Accused Cop Killer
COLORADO SPRINGS – The defense for accused cop killer Jereme Lamberth rested Tuesday afternoon, only one day after the prosecution rested its case. Lamberth did not take the stand in his own defense. He’s accused of killing Colorado Springs Police Detective Jared Jensen in February of 2005.
During jury instructions Tuesday, Lamberth tried to fire his attorneys in the courtroom. The judge stepped in, and told Lamberth it was too late for him to fire his attorneys. Lamberth also said he doesn’t want the jury to consider lesser charges against him. He said, “I think it’s all or nothing.” Lamberth tried to tell the court that he couldn’t stand the stress of going back to prison for 10 years and trying to re-enter society.
The judge told Lamberth the attorneys will decide what charges to submit to the jury. The possible charges the jury might consider include first degree murder, second degree murder, reckless manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
Closing arguments will be heard Wednesday morning and the case will then be handed to the jury for a verdict.
