‘Shotgun Bandit’ Remains At Large

COLORADO SPRINGS – Police advised caution to residents and trick-or-treaters outside Halloween night, as the search continued for a robbery suspect who held-up two victims and shot a third early Wednesday morning.

“Overall, we’re very low when it comes to violent crime for cities our side,” says police Lt. Skip Arms. “We don’t want to create any unnecessary fear or concerns, but people need to take reasonable precautions for their own personal safety.”

Ruby Garcia lives at Gold Hill Condos on the city’s west side, where the last in the robbery spree happened around 6 p.m. “I’m shocked, and I’m very disappointed. I’ve never had any problem out here. I’ve felt totally secure and safe. I thought I lived in a very safe surrounding.”

Elizabeth Spurgeon and her family recently moved into a residence on Half Turn Road where theshotgun-armed robber took a woman’s purse. “It could have happenedto me just as easily,” says Spurgeon, who admits she frequently walks alone. “I feel really bad for that lady. I always look at my surroundings, no matter what.”

Policeadvise that you do not struggle or resist a robber who tries to take your possessions. The victim shot by the bandit tried to escapeby driving away, but drove himself to Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police are looking for a blue or green Ford Escort station wagon driven by the bandit.
