Ted Haggard’s New Mission

PHOENIX – Pastor Ted Haggard and his family will soon live with those who are trying to improve their lives. In an e-mail to NEWSCHANNEL 13 the former New Life Pastor says he will be moving into the Phoenix Dream Center, a place for those who are homeless, coming out of prison, prostitutes and are recovering from drug and alcohol issues. “I met the pastor (of the Phoenix Dream Center) and he asked me if I would be willing to counsel some of the men and to teach the group from time to time,” says Haggard. He adds that his wife, Gayle, will help minister to the women.

Haggard, along with his wife and two younger children, will move into the Phoenix Center in October. They will share a one-bedroom apartment, but their two boys will live in an adjacent room. “We feel our move into the Dream Center is the next step God would have us take. Any help we can get with this will be greatly appreciated and I believe, rewarded in heaven.”

Haggard also tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 he is going back to school full time to obtain his Masters of Science in Counseling. His wife Gayle will join him, getting her undergrad in psychology. He also is asking those he helped in the past to help his family financially for the next two years. “During that time we will continue as full time students, and then, when I graduate, we won’t need outside support any longer.”

Haggard was forced to leave New Life Church Last year after being accused to having a three-year sexual relationship with a gay male escort. Haggard also admitted buying meth, which he says he never used.
