Steve’s Garden: How the drought has impacted this year’s growing season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The drought has made growing season tough for gardens in southern Colorado.

Over this season of Steve's Garden, though, the herbs like basil and rosemary have seen great growth. Both looked healthy early in the year.

Then we had our fruits look great after that, with both blooming early. The folks at Spencer's Lawn and Garden Centers say they faced the same problem Steve's garden did.

"It was a tough growing season," Mike Spencer at Spencer's Lawn and Garden Centers said. "it got hot so fast. A lot of warm-weather plants, like tomatoes, did really good. Some of the cool-season lettuces, it was just so hot."

A lot of the plants in Steve's garden felt the heat, wilting fast when the middle-of-summer heat hit.
