Yearling bear rescued and relocated from Pueblo

Pueblo Fire Department

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A roughly 1-year-old bear was captured and relocated after officials said they expected the animal was seeking refuge from wildfires.

Pueblo Fire Department (PFD), Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and Pueblo Police all assisted in the rescue on July 9.

PFD says the bear was originally spotted near La Vista Road. CPW says the 90-pound yearling was immobilized and taken to a bear habitat, where they were then given a wake-up drug.

Officials encourage the community to be aware of their surroundings as wildlife seek refuge from fires.
