No ball in the fall. CHSAA votes not to move football from the spring to the fall
The enthusiasm for a fall football season once again turned faster than the weather. In less than 24 hours we went from possibly having a fall high school football season to CHSAA putting an end to it. Choosing to carry-on with it's plans for a spring season, "It was kind of like canceling Christmas twice I guess. The kids were pretty excited about the possibility of playing in the fall, and getting ready and doing something they love. That's not there anymore. that was a tough thing to do, to have that conversation again," says Pueblo South head football coach Ryan Goddard, Palmer Ridge football player Connor Jones added, "Yesterday, I got really hopeful. I was really excited. I like playing football in the fall. Today, it was very disappointing to see." At the same time, there were always a lot of logistical hurdles. It's true that other states are playing football but it's also true that there are still things some schools need to get worked out, "We still have folks struggling getting School up and running. When you put things into perspective, if we would have had football this fall, we would've had teams trying to figure out how to put a football team on a football field, while they're also trying to figure out how to put kids in a classroom," says District 11 athletic director, Chris Noll. For the players who were already prepared for spring football, this changes nothing, "I can only control what I can control. So I'm going to take my controllables and roll with it. I'm going to keep grinding and working for more opportunities to play at the next level," says Jones.
"We are still going to get an opportunity to play. If you asked the kids last spring, especially our seniors from last spring, they didn't get a chance to compete," says Noll
