Bad Axe Throwing attempts world record

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Saturday was International Axe Throwing Day. It is not a holiday invented by 1980's slasher villains, nor does it have anything to do with throwing hair gel at someone.

There is literally a day dedicated to throwing axes. To celebrate, Bad Axe Throwing went for the world record for most people throwing axes at one time. It was a nationwide coordinated effort over Zoom. They had 134 groups and roughly 300 people throwing axes simultaneously. They're waiting to find out if they did, in fact, set the record, but anyway you slice it, they made the most out of their attempt.

Axe master Mike Mariolle was thrilled to be a part of it.

"Being able to bring people together like that, even though we're so distant from everything, is just awesome. It's more fun and cheaper than therapy."
