AURORA, Colo. (KRDO) — The Colorado Department of Human Services reported there is a COVID-19 outbreak at the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons in Aurora.

According to a tweet from CDHS, two residents have died, and 14 others have tested positive. Of the positive cases, seven are residents and the other seven are staff members.

CDHS said it is taking all the proper precautions to isolate the residents and control the spread of the virus. It also asked the Colorado National Guard to test all the residents and facility staff Wednesday.

Once the department has the test results, it will work with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment on further plans to protect residents.

CDHS also said it’s prepared to bring in extra staff in case more staff test positive. It’s been keeping staff and family members informed about the situation.

The nursing home has not been allowing visitors. Only essential individuals were allowed in the facility. Everyone who entered was screened, and people who showed active signs of the virus weren’t allowed to enter.
