Chuck Broerman

How does your experience make you qualified to represent the people?
As the incumbent El Paso County Treasurer since 2023, I am seeking re-election in 2026. With nearly a decade as El Paso County Clerk and Recorder and more than 20 years of private-sector leadership in technology and business, I bring extensive experience in managing complex operations, budgets, and public services. As Treasurer, I oversee property tax collection and distribution for local governments while leading a $2 million budget and a team of 18 employees.
I have focused on modernizing county services through digital tools, improved customer service, transparency, and efficient tax administration. My background in both government and business has helped drive innovation, streamline processes, and enhance public access to services. I introduced the first in the nation on-line monthly property tax pre-payment program to assist budget conscious property owners in making their property tax payments. I am a proven county leader with a strong record of electoral success and community involvement, I offer continuity, fiscal stewardship, and the institutional knowledge needed to effectively serve El Paso County taxpayers.
What are your top policy priorities?
To provide transparent, accurate, secure, and citizen-focused treasury services by protecting taxpayer funds, modernizing technology, improving customer service, and ensuring efficient financial management for both residents and local governments.
What is one issue you think is being overlooked in this race, and how would you address it?
One issue that deserves greater attention in this race is ensuring the long-term viability and accessibility of Colorado’s Senior and Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption Program. These programs provide critical property tax relief for seniors and disabled veterans living on fixed incomes, helping them remain in their homes despite rising property values and increasing tax burdens. As Treasurer, I would continue to advocate for the Colorado General Assembly to fully fund these exemptions and protect them from future budget pressures.
I would also support making the Senior Homestead Exemption portable, allowing eligible homeowners to carry their exemption with them when they right-size or relocate to a more appropriate home later in life. Too often, seniors remain in homes that no longer meet their needs because moving would mean losing valuable tax relief. A portable exemption would give seniors greater flexibility, encourage housing mobility, and help them maintain financial stability while preserving a benefit they have earned.
In addition, I strongly support the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) as a vital safeguard against government overreach, ensuring taxpayers retain more control over their hard-earned money while promoting accountability and responsible spending. By protecting taxpayer rights, maintaining fiscal discipline, and preserving property tax relief programs for seniors and disabled veterans, we can provide meaningful support to those who need it most while ensuring sound stewardship of public funds.
