Christian Seale

District 5 - Democratic Party
How does your experience make you qualified to represent the people?
I grew up as impoverished as it gets in The United States. By fourteen years old, my parents had abandoned me in Phoenix, Arizona, leaving me to fend for myself. Soon after, I got really lucky and a brilliant, caring single mother of two took me in like one of her own. She gave me the opportunity to make something out of my life, but more than that she helped me to realize that I could use the opportunity she gave me to help fight for a world where no child finds themselves sleeping on the side of the road, unaware of when their next meal will come, in the richest nation in world history. So that is what I did. I left Arizona at eighteen and was hired on by the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition. From there, I joined the Colorado Young Democrats and continued fighting to make our communities safer and more affordable. That is why I am running to be our next County Commissioner, because it is past time that we had a working class voice in our local government advocating for the needs of our families.
What are your top policy priorities?
My priorities are clear: creating a safer and more affordable El Paso County for everyone who calls it home. That means fighting for a county government that will invest in policies that genuinely benefit our families and working residents. From expanding our bus services and subsidizing fare-free rides, to fully funding the Colorado Emergency Mortgage and Rental Assistance Program and the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program for all of our residents here in the county, I am fighting to make sure our families feel safe and can economically thrive here in our home. Our County Government can do a lot for our communities, and I am running because our residents deserve local officials who will use that potential to fight for a stronger, safer, and more affordable El Paso County for
What is one issue you think is being overlooked in this race, and how would you address it?
I believe that one of the biggest issues being overlooked in this race is gerrymandering, and our communities hear me talk about this a lot. For over half of a century, a small group of Republicans have weaponized their powers as County Commissioners to effectively guarantee a GOP Monopoly have control of our board of commissioners by undemocratically gerrymandering the district maps. Today, thanks to Senator Tony Exum and a handful of other activists and organizers around the county, our residents finally have what has been called a "fairer map". One that is still gerrymandered to guarantee a GOP majority, but opens the door up to the first Democrat on the board in more than twice my lifetime. These gerrymandering efforts have been a decades-long plot by the Republican Party to ensure they do not have to listen to the will of the voters as they carry out their agenda across El Paso County, and it must end. I was taught that in America we have governments of the people, for the people, and by the people. This is a sacred national value and it is one that the GOP's actions, here in El Paso County, have trounced upon like so many others that we hold dear as of late. If elected as the first Democrat on our Board of Commissioners in over half of a century, I will fight to ensure all of our voices are heard, not just those the Republican Party deem fit. From Wigwam to Palmer Lake and Green Mountain Falls to Rush, I love this County and together we are going to take it back.
