COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The north side of Colorado Springs welcomed the opening of a new state-of-the-art emergency department to its hospital this morning.

The Centura St. Francis - Interquest facility at 10860 New Allegiance Drive, officially opened its new emergency department. The facility will help service the "rapidly growing" population in the area, with four floors of basic to advanced care - highlighted by 10 orthopedic and spinal operating rooms that will open later this year.

"This institution will specialize in orthopedic and spine care.  However, general medical treatment will be given here in a way that is both personal and highly technologically advanced," explained Bill Lueck, with Centura Health.

The 140,000-square-foot facility began construction three years ago, with the intent of bringing advanced, 24/7 care to the residents of Northern Colorado Springs, due to its ever-growing population.

The hospital's focus is on using technology to put the patient at the center of care and give them a more personalized experience working with clinicians.

"At the foot of the patients. That is a giant screen where we can pull up their X-rays or labs and review them in real-time with the patient, as opposed to carrying on scraps of paper and try and remember things and really involving patients in that interaction," said Valerie McGinnis, the Chief Medical Informatics Officer with Centura Health.

The hospital is now accepting patients for all services except operating procedures, in what they hope is the beginning of a new era of medical care for Colorado Springs residents.
