Oldest Pueblo Zoo resident is an advocate for animal conservation

The Pueblo Zoo is hoping its oldest resident sends an important message about conservation.

Zookeepers say Keesha, a golden eagle, came to the facility as a rescue animal 36 years ago.

His exact age isn’t known, but it is certain that he’s been there longer than any other animal. As long as Keesha makes the zoo his home, his caretakers hope he can help raise awareness about rehab birds.

“He is an advocate for conservation. He was an injured bird when he came here and had to go through rehab, but he cannot fly. He has found a fantastic home here. He would not be able to survive on his own.” said Laura Pilarski, Pueblo Zoo area supervisor.

The zoo says they expect to have Keesha there for many years to come.
