How to avoid a roof repair scam

Roofers are out in full force following Friday’s blast of hail on the east side of Colorado Springs.

Signs, advertising roof repairs, are on several corners. And roofers can already be found on the job ripping shingles.

As with any severe weather there comes a reminder about scams. One local owner suggests using a referral system.

“You want somebody that you can reference. We did a roof down the street, so he’s a reference for this guy here. So, it’s how I do my work,” said Victor Vidmar, owner of Hometown Roofing.

Here are some of the most common signs of a scam:

The disappearing down payment
They mysterious door-to-door salesman
High-pressure tactics to get your business The fluctuating bid
