Shelter-in-place order issued in Manitou Springs Wednesday night due to barricaded suspect

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Manitou Springs Police Dept. (MSPD) issued a shelter-in-place Wednesday evening for a half-mile radius around the 00 block of Manitou Ave.

According to the City of Manitou Springs, the shelter-in-place was issued at 6 p.m.

Just before 6 p.m., officers responded to a man threatening people in public. They attempted to contact him at the motel he was staying at and suspected he might have a weapon, the city said. At this point, the shelter-in-place was issued.

Around 8 p.m., the city provided an update and said police will continue to try to make contact with the suspect and work towards a peaceful outcome.

In its statement, the city emphasized that no weapon was actually seen at the incident.
