COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A pedestrian is now in the hospital in recovery following a traffic accident that occurred early this morning.

Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) were dispatched to the scene around 7 a.m. at Austin Bluffs and North Academy Boulevard.

According to the CSPD, several northbound lanes of traffic were shut down and the Colorado Springs Fire Department was also dispatched to the accident.

CSPD reports a vehicle was traveling northbound in the center lane on N. Academy within speed limits approaching a green light.

That's when the pedestrian crossed from the center median outside of a marked crosswalk and was subsequently hit by the driver.

CSPD stated the driver remained on the scene and cooperated with officers during the investigation.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital after sustaining injuries and CSPD reminded them to use crosswalks when crossing roadways.

At this time, alcohol and drugs are not factors in this investigation.
