Green Mountain Falls goose laid to rest

A Green Mountain Falls goose, known for his crossing guard skills and protective nature, was laid to rest Thursday.

Roy, a Chinese goose, spent the last eight years at a pond as a guardian of sorts.

“He was more than just a goose.”

To those who knew him best, he was a protective father, a body guard and a community treasure.

“I’d stop at this stop sign and I’d hear him honking. He knows everybody’s truck and befriended them,” Ann Pinell said.

“He was a delight for everybody. The grand kids were just enthralled with him,” Claudia Miller said.

Roy died Friday, killed by two dogs that were not on leashes.

“He probably passed away, you know, worrying about the other ducks, wanting to protect them from the dogs.”

Since his passing, the lake is quiet.

“And now the lake is quite empty because they’ve left trying to find him,” Miller said.

“I’m just hoping that with the new hatches that life will come back but it will never be the same.”

But this father goose will, in a way, still watch over his flock. He was buried on the hilltop over-looking the pond.

“He had a great soul and I know everything happens for a reason but this is real hard for our town.”

A town that turned out to say a final goodbye to a goose that did his best not to ruffle any feathers.
