Fire threatens home in SE Colorado Springs, neighbors question response

A grass fire burned 15-20 acres on Tuesday afternoon at E. Fountain Boulevard and Academy Park Loop.

The fire burned near the Nazarene Bible College.

Witnesses say that people from the bible college as well as other bystanders helped fight the fire, even though there were quite a few firefighters already at the scene.

El Paso County Wildland Fire also assisted the Colorado Springs Fire Department with fighting this fire.

It began at the south end of the field, and spread north quickly, due to the dry and windy conditions.

Smoke was visible from several miles away at the height of the fire.

When it was over, several neighbors questioned firefighters about why it took so long for a truck and a crew to arrive at their fenceline.

A firefighter told them the response would be reviewed to determine if there were any miscues in the response effort.

There were no injuries from the fire, but several homeowners suffered damage to their fences.
