Pueblo County High School grants Wish for a young boy with a chronic health condition

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A young boy battling a chronic health condition had his greatest wish granted Wednesday thanks to a large group of students at Pueblo County High School.

This past week, students rallied their support around seven-year-old Cash Blanchfield. He's been dealing with a serious heart condition since he was born.

Cash spent the first few months of his life in a hospital. His parents, Amanda and Ryan Blanchfield were told Cash had a heart murmur. The only solution to save him was a heart transplant.

"We waited on the list for 51 days and got the call and whirlwind two days later and he was hooked up to a bunch of machines and wires and it was crazy," said Ryan.

He received that life-saving transplant, but Cash still needs to go to the hospital from time to time to monitor his new heart, something he'll have to do for the rest of his life.

"He does get infusions every ten weeks for that, um, to keep his colon healed and stuff. But that's just what comes with it, you know, being immunosuppressed," explained Amanda.

Wednesday, however, Cash got to be just a kid thanks to the hard work of the Pueblo County Hornets.

"It was just awesome to be able to grant his wish," said Teagan Chavez, Pueblo County High School Senior.

They raised more than $29,000 to make his Cash's wish come true, to have a real-life Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in his backyard.

"He loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and he wants all the fun things that he sees on a cartoon to play with in his backyard," said Amanda.

The family told us they expect construction on this to start once the weather gets a little better.
