Can Trump face legal trouble after violent protests at rallies?

Monday night, a North Carolina sheriff decided not to charge Donald Trump with a misdemeanor for inciting a riot at a recent campaign stop.

Trump was speaking at an event last Thursday in Fayetteville, NC when one of his supporters sucker-punched a protester.

Donald Trump argues peace and love triumph at his rallies on the campaign trail.

“People ask is there violence? There’s no violence, these are lovefests,” Trump said.

Trump maintains he bears no responsibility for the unrest and violent nature of his recent campaign events.

Instead, the GOP frontrunner says the protesters largely back Democrat Bernie Sanders, and are sent by the Sanders camp to make trouble.

“A candidate for President of the United States should condemn violence, not encourage violence,” Sanders said in response to his GOP rival’s claims.

Colorado Springs criminal defense attorney Patrick Mika argues Trump is polarizing and controversial, but legally, he’s not responsible for the actions of others.

“Generally speaking we never prosecute individuals for the behavior of another,” Mika said.

Trump said he will look into paying the legal fees of 78-year-old John McGraw who sucker-punched a black protester.

Mika contends Trump is within his right to provide financial support.

“That in and of itself does not make him an accomplice, because the accomplice part must come before the act,” Mika said. “Public forums, political rallies incite and inflame the anger, the emotions of a lot of people on either side.”

Tuesday being dubbed “Super Tuesday 3” as five more states cast primary ballots: Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina.
