Daylight Saving Time could increase the risk of strokes
This Sunday the clocks will be springing ahead an hour for daylight saving time and with the time change, there comes the increase of suffering a stroke.
A Finnish study shows, daylight saving time is linked to an increased risk of ischemic strokes, which are caused by an interruption of blood supply to the brain. Researchers found the incidence of strokes is 8% percent higher during the first two days after we spring forward or fall back an hour.
Ashley Truillo with St. Mary-Corwin’s Stroke program says, “They felt that was due to the changes in circadian rhythms with people, so it’s just a highlight of a day that we should focus on and really keep an eye out for risk factors.”
Experts say you can help reduce your risk of suffering a stroke by cutting stress levels, sleeping more, eating healthy and exercising more.
