Die-hard Broncos fan builds man cave with memorabilia
Travis Dumas’ starting position every Sunday in the fall and early winter is on his couch, in his man cave, glued to the Broncos.
“We get so into it the blood pressure just boils,” Dumas said.
Every inch of his Fountain basement is adorned with memorabilia. Jerseys, a Wheaties box, headlines from momentous victories, even a wine bottle he and his wife enjoyed during the Super Bowl XXXII victory over the Green Bay Packers.
Dumas is stressed on the couch, watching every play.
“My face turns red, my wife is telling me to calm down and all it is, is we’re down by 3 in the 4th quarter,” Dumas said. “I get that into it, I forget about eating, I get so into the game my heart is just pumping.
Dr. John Torres believes that kind of behavior can be costly to your health.
“As we get closer to the game especially on gameday, watch your blood pressure, watch your heart rate, back away from the game if you need to and calm down,” Torres said. “This stress you get from Bronco fever, football fever adds adrenaline to your system especially during the game when everything is hot and heavy, that adrenaline can bump up your blood pressure, cause an increased risk of heart condition. So, you just got to be careful.”
When watching the game, he suggests keeping an eye on fellow fans, especially if they’re older or have pre-existing conditions.
Back in the man cave, Dumas tries to figure out where where he hopes to add another piece of history if the Broncos beat New England and win the Super Bowl in February.
“I’ll put up a gold 50 somewhere around here, I guarantee that,” the die-hard fan said.
