Security-Widefield man sentenced to prison for murder
A Security-Widefield man who was convicted of second degree murder has been sentenced.
Michael Malory, who was tried twice for the crime, was sentenced to 48 years in prison for his role in the murder of Daniel Baird.
In his first trial, Malory was found not guilty of first degree murder and the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the second degree murder charge filed against him.
A new trial for the second degree murder charge began on September 28, 2015. The jury convicted Malory on October 7, 2015.
Malory is one of three men arrested in the shooting death of Daniel Baird.
The shooting happened in the 1100 block of Main Street in Security-Widefield on May 3, 2014.
Brian Springsted was convicted of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit first degree murder on November 26, 2014.
Springsted was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus 16 years.
The third man who was arrested in connection to this crime was Nathan Varnadore, according to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
