Ledford leads the way for Air Force hockey

Home ice means a little more to Tyler Ledford.

“It’s kind of just a dream come true,” said Ledford. “I always used to come to these games and I’ve always wanted to come here – just ask [Coach Serratore]. He always tells me that I recruited him, he didn’t recruit me.”

Growing up in Colorado Springs, goal’s like the one he scored against Bentley are special.

“I have all my family that lives in the Springs, like my grandparents,” said Ledford. “I get to see them a lot. It’s pretty cool coming home, and my grandpa was in the Air Force so that’s kind of cool for me too.”

He’s third on the team in goals and points as only a sophomore, and more importantly “Leddy” – as the guys call him – is a team player.

“I like when you feel better about your assist than the goal,” says Ledford. “Because I’ve never been a big goal scorer, I’ve always been more of an assist guy.”

Ledford has been skating on ice like the Cadet Ice Arena since he was four years old. As he navigated the hockey landscape there was little doubt that one day – he’d be a Falcon”

“I was living in the springs and had to go up to Denver for practice, every day you’re working out and then you get to juniors and you’re playing 60 games a year,” said Ledford. “You’re working out every day and practicing every day, you really need a passion for the sport.”

The hockey grind took Ledford to Wichita Falls – where he found his toughest test.

“I just really didn’t transition well into the league and that was kind of tough for me,” said Ledford. “It was a lot bigger and more physical and more demanding.”

He fought through that trial with skates on his feet and friends at his side. Now – the sky is the limit for this Falcon.
