Man in hospital after being shot in the head by his son

A standoff has ended after the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says a man in his 40s was barricaded inside of a house after shooting his father in the head early this morning.

SWAT teams arrested Clifford Bishop. He faces a 2nd degree attempted murder charge.

Bishop’s father was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

EPCSO said it answered a family disturbance call at 4:11 this morning at the 300 block of Cherry Hills Way, just outside of Monument.

The Douglas County Regional Area SWAT team was called to help. EPCSO said its SWAT team and the Colorado Springs SWAT team were not at full strength because of the Black Friday shooting.

EPCSO said part of the reason is SWAT team members are on paid administrative leave for either being injured or mentally exhausted.

“When you’ve got a death of an officer, when you got active shooter scenarios, if people feel the need to take a little bit of time off, they are afforded that,” EPCSO Public Information Officer Jacqueline Kirby said.

Three other family members were inside of the house, EPSCO said they were evacuated. Neighbors were evacuated by the SWAT team for safety measures, but have been returned to their homes.

The victim’s names have not been released. Investigators have not revealed a motive for the shooting.
