Carson tops in fundraising throughout Pikes Peak region
El Paso County voters are getting out their checkbooks for 2016 presidential candidates. So far, Ben Carson is the favorite.
The Federal Election Commission reports, the neurosurgeon raised almost $42,000 for his campaign from voters in Southern Colorado.
Daniel Cole, the executive director of the El Paso County GOP says one reason Carson has so many donors in this area is due to the fact he the only candidate to campaign in Colorado Springs to date.
“I know firsthand that Carson has a lot of volunteers,” Cole said, “working on his behalf, going door to door singing his praises. Those volunteers were motivated when he came out to them only about six weeks ago.”
Ted Cruz comes in second in donations, raising almost $17,000. Hillary Clinton rounds out the top three, with more than $11,000 from donors.
